Surely most players whose childhood passed with 8-bit and 16-bit consoles remember how incredible the games of the Beat’em Up genre with a local cooperative were in those days. These sofa gatherings in the company of friends were simply impossible to forget. Ninja turtles, Final Fight, Double Dragon, Battletoads and other and more spray games of that time aroused delight in small kids from all over the world. And I was no exception.
Background
In 2004, the 2D engine called the Beats of Rage, developed by SENILE TEAM and the ideologically based on the Streets of Rage Games using fighters from King of Fights, was released. The game itself was extremely boring as for me, but the reason for its success was a flexible-subtracted game engine with open source, which gradually evolved in Openbor. It is on this engine, a little later one of the developers of Mortal Kombat Project 4.1 under the nickname BWWD made his first Beat’em Up called Mortal Kombat.
In 2009, during the popularity of the Lavalit website.COM (then shelter of independent developers of games on the OpenBor engine from all over the world), the user under the nickname Maggas released the modified version of the MK game from BWWD called Mortal Kombat Unlimited, introducing new levels and enemies.
This year, Magggas began to develop the new Beat’em Up project called Mortal Kombat Outworld Assassins, borrowing the main physical elements and finishing the fighters from Mortal Kombat Unlimited, becoming even more tougher and heimpli. It was proposed to play for three fighters-Sub-Zero, Scorpion and Noob-Saibot. A little later, the Trinity’s ally of the Trinity was implemented – Smoke, for which it was impossible to play, but it was possible to call for reinforcements during the battle.
The release of Mortal Kombat Outworld Assassins took place in 2010 and did not disappoint the fans that were observed by the development of the project. Among such fans was. On the first day of possession, I excitedly went through all seven levels of the game from beginning to end and remained very impressed by the product, although I drew attention to a number of shortcomings that I will talk about later. It turned out that, unlike predecessors, the game even had a simple plot.
PLOT
The Grandmaster sends the Sab-Ziro http://the-hippodrome-online-casino.co.uk/ to return Shinnok’s amulet, which allegedly stolen Kenshi. Scorpio and sub-Ziro come to the aid of the ice warrior. At the end of the first level, it turns out that Kenshi (by that time had already rested from the seppuka) did not stole, and the whole task was a distracting maneuver for an ice warrior to lure him from the temple of Lin Kui, from where the amulet did not disappear.
Returning to the temple to the second level, the Trinity discovers the dead Lin of the Kuets. Subsequently, it turns out that behind the massacre is Frost, which, by the way, is not so simple and overcome. The Grandmaster, who directed us on the false trail, was gone, and his traces lead to the outside world.
After proceeding through the scarlet portal and overcome by Ermak, the heroes find themselves at the foot of the external -hearted copy of the temple Lin Cui. Inside they find a grandmaster who is trying to kill them. After the victory over the mentor, the Sab-Ziro notices traces of the presence of witchcraft and suspects the conspiracy of the sorcerers of Kuan Chi and the Shang Tsunga, who had previously resorted to the services of the Lin Cui clan services.
Fought in the dungeon with the reptile and with Raiko in the tower, the Trinity still gets to the shelter of the sorcerers, where the hordes of opponents are thickened. At the cost of incredible efforts, they manage to defeat the sorcerers and return the amulet to the earthly kingdom.
The epilogue says that Scorpio and Nub-Saybot, satisfied with reprisal against sorcerers, are returning NEZERRALM. Sab-Ziro gives the amulet to Raden and returns to the temple of Lin Cui for the revival of the clan.
For which the project is so loved by fans?
Without exaggeration, Mortal Kombat Outworld Assassins is the best project for the Mortal Kombat universe on the Openbor engine. Despite the uniformity of the fighting on the screen, the fighter fighter is quite deep. In addition to conventional strokes on separate buttons, dodge, uppercott and ranghaus are displayed on separate buttons. When combining techniques, it is possible to make various kinds of deadly combinations, for which a classic counter of the shock was even introduced. In addition to the foregoing Scorpio, Nub-Saybot and Sab-Ziro have three unique specials.reception and one superpower consuming life. However, there is no block in the game, which is atypical for playing from the Mortal Kombat franchise.
Any ordinary fighter could now repulse the main characters, as it was in Mortal Kombat Mythologies. However, the variety of enemies is not very great: guard, monk, warrior, ninja. Fortunately, each of the listed types has modified varieties with weapons: a guard with a spear, a monk with a saber, a ninja with a sword, a warrior with an ax. After the death of modified enemies, you can use their weapons yourself, with particular frantic, cutting subsequent opponents. As in most classic bitemaps, heroes are able to strike with a run and jump. At the same time, if they had weapons in their hands, then the blows acquired a different performance.
It is a pleasure to beat enemies, because they are able to die in various ways – to lose their heads and torso, explode with bones, crumble with ice, burn out to the body … A separate mention is worthy of bosses, for which special types of death are allocated – reptile can be redeemed, Frost is discouraged by the head, Rico can be turned into a child, Ermaka is cut off with half. However, some of them finish themselves with the help of spectacular hara-kiri. However, in the case of finishing the bosses, there is one nuance – the bosses do not die until the same finishing is carried out that depresses many at the first passage. It is impossible to lose the benefit, because Magggas granted the players as many as 90 continuations, which hints at some unbalanced game.
On the disadvantages of the project
The total time of the game took me an hour and a half. Already in the middle of the game, the uniformity of the beginning on the screen began to lunch. The resolution of the gaming window did not allow to walk around – at the last level it became cramped from the abundance of enemies even with a single passage, but the game supports the simultaneous session of three people at once!
And if the game is held together with a bang, then the three of them begin to climb various kinds of bugs and refuse special.Receptions. However, here it is a sin to scold Magggas-a, the restrictions and the fundamental clumsy of the Openbor engine of that time were all to blame.
Revision of 2018 and version 2.0
Seven years after the release of Mortal Kombat Outworld Assiassins, Maggas transferred his brainchild to the latest stable version of the Openbor engine from 2017, and transferred the picture to a broad-screen format, which beneficial affected Gimpilee. The maximum number of players was reduced from three to two, which gave a plus to stability. The game itself began to load many times faster, but the fact that the gameplay boring in the middle of the passage still did not give me rest.
About two months ago, I personally contacted Magggas on the Chronocrash website and asked him for permission to finalize the project to his own taste. Magggas approved the request, especially since the formation of a programmer allowed me to easily understand a simple designer called Openbor. I did not deeply delve into the development of the characters and left the fighters as it is, because for the most part there were no problems with them, only I corrected the visual component in some places. The result of the work was Mortal Kombat Outworld Assassins v2.0. Next, I will present a list of changes and improvements, which personally made to the game:
1. The number of enemies in the upcoming waves is reduced.
2. Health in bosses lowered.
3. The second level was completely converted.
4. A completely new level of “The Desert” has been added between the second and third.
5. Decorations added:
– Rays of light in the first act of the first level.
– Animated face in the first act of the fourth level.
– Red haze in the second act of the fifth level.
6. Added heimple elements:
– Spikes in the second act of the sixth level.
– holes in the floor at the third and seventh levels.
7. New appearance for objects: 1up, Small_health, Full_health and Time.
8. The new sound of raising four new objects (green, red, silver and gold coins)
9. All dialogue messages have been rewritten, spelling errors are corrected.
10. Redeated statistics screen and download screen.
11. All 8 levels are named.
12. Reduced time in a timer from 99 seconds to 60.
13. The number of continuation is reduced from 90 to 6.
14. A completely new type of enemies has been introduced – Runner.
15. A new type of nobrum more furrier is introduced – Noob.
16. The size of the PAK file is reduced from 80MB to 50MB, by optimizing the soundtrack and removing more than a hundred unused sprites.
17. New exteats for bosses: Kenshi and Grandmaster.
